SIMUN 2010

As a freshmen in SIMUN my first impression was, “Oh no”. I usually don’t like the idea of debating to the whole class or group because I get nervous and I start stuttering. When we got research on the first day I read over them and the idea of the topics actually interested me, another thing that grabbed my intention was that my country was Argentina and I knew nothing about that so I took this opportunity to learn about a new country.
After the first day of SIMUN I really enjoyed it, the first topic was Argentina and the UK over the Falkland islands so I was really active in it. I had a lot of fun that day because I was getting confident in myself speaking in fount of the group, I stated my points, and asked my questions. So the first day was the best because I was really active in it and it was fun taking real life scenarios and thinking of a solution to the conflicts by ourselves.
On the first day I think I did pretty good, like I said before I was saying what I wanted to say, I helped in the resolutions and spoke to other groups about the conflicts. I think I did good because the problem included my country, but the other days I didn’t do as well as I wanted to because my country didn’t have any part in the other scenarios, so it was really had to get myself involved.
I prepared myself by trying to relax, when I relaxed I was talking and asking questions, when I wasn’t relaxing I started to stutter and became nervous. I also prepared myself by after reading the scenarios I wrote down on a piece of paper what I thought about my opinion what I think should be done. Another thing I know I can do is talk more during caucusing, I now know that using that time is valuable in filtering out any questions I have and thinking of solutions.
Next year in SIMUN I now know that I just need to relax and be confident in myself. I think that when I research my topics and countries to think outside of the problem itself and doing that I think I can get way more involved and I could ask more questions. Next year I’m also looking forward to my next country and learning about that country and their history and past conflicts between other countries, and also talking to other allies.

Us and Pakistan's nuclear materials

As a country of Argentina I don’t think the US should secure Pakistan’s nuclear materials because if they do it could anger Pakistan and make relations between the two worsen.
The US shouldn’t secure their nuclear materials because the US doesn’t need any to lose anymore allies, and the US should concentrate more on their own country than others. If the us concentrated more on their own country then problems with the economy and other stuff would get done and be more efficient. Why should the US be responsible for taking care of other countries, if Pakistan thinks they need to remove the nuclear materials or even if other countries see it as a threat then they could contact Pakistan and just ask them to temporarily remove it for a while.
Why should the US be able to have nuclear materials and other powerful countries but other low profile countries cannot? I think that all countries should be able to obtain nuclear weapons for protection purposes only; another way to make sure it’s for personal use only it to put a limit of how many their able to have. If Pakistan has been having problems with another country and using their nuclear materials as a threat then I do think that the US and other powerful countries should go in and remove their nukes, they should do this because we do not want them to start a nuclear war with anyone and to not kill any innocent lives.
IF we didn’t remove them it could show signs to countries that have problems with Pakistan and take that as a weak point of having no protection and a sign to show that they have power as well as any other county has

My book

Soldier X
The last couple of weeks I’ve been reading Solider X by Don Wulffson. My first thoughts when I read this book was that it was very interesting and it made me want to read more. One thing that really made me want to read more is the subject of the book. The back of the book and the prologue explains that “Solider X” is an EX world war 2 veteran but now he’s a school teacher, and all of his students what was it like fighting the Nazi’s, but the very interesting part was that he was a Nazi soldier. So to me this is very interesting cause even though it’s a story yours getting the unusual side of World War 2 form the German side.
I’ve noticed during the story the author likes to use comas and short sentences to show action and emotions with the soldiers and the war. On page 29 when the man on the turret gets shot he does a “death dance” and he says, “… I laughed-ashamed, embarrassed...” When I read this portion of the book I could really see the young boy laughing, but being ashamed about it at the same time. Another good example of where he uses comas to show emotion and expression is when he’s getting shot at on page 30; “Nervous eyes, hooded by helmets, exchanged glances. I held my Mauser tightly.” I really like his type of writing when he’s describing different seems too, it seems like he wants you to be in 3rd person view of visions of the book.
So, so far I’m really enjoying this book straight from the start, and I really looking forward to see what happens in the rest of the book.
